How to press a key every X seconds

Three ways, from a free key presser to timers that run next to a macro.

Updated 1 October 2026 · The key presser is free in Myna Recorder; Timed Actions are part of Basic and Pro.

1. The quick way: the Clicker tab

  1. Open the Clicker tab and choose A key press.
  2. Click the key box and press the key, for example F5 to refresh a page.
  3. Set how long to wait between presses, in milliseconds: 30000 is every 30 seconds.
  4. Choose when it stops: when you stop it, after a number of presses, or after a time.
  5. Press Run. The button waits a few seconds first, so you can switch to the window that should get the key. With the tab open, F4 starts it at once and F6 stops it, from any program.

2. In a script

The same thing as one line in the Script tab, which can sit inside a longer macro:

press("f5", times=0, interval_ms=60000)

times=0 keeps pressing until you press Stop. A number instead stops after that many presses, duration_ms= stops after a time, and jitter_ms= adds a random extra wait on top of the interval:

press("pagedown", times=40, interval_ms=10000, jitter_ms=2000)

3. Next to a macro: Timed Actions

Timed Actions press keys or click on their own timer while something else runs: a macro, the clicker or the monitors, or on their own.

  • Open the Timed Actions tab and press Add timer. Add the steps (a key press, a key held down and released, a click, a wait) and set how often it fires.
  • A timer can be a short sequence, such as holding Y, pressing T and releasing Y.
  • The interval can vary by a random amount, and a start delay holds the first firing back.
  • A timer can pause the macro while it fires, waiting until the macro holds no keys down, so the two never type into each other.
  • Stopped and started again, each timer carries on where it left off instead of firing at once.

4. Stopping

Stop (F6) ends everything that is running, from any program. A key a timer holds down is released when you turn that timer off or press Stop.

5. Plans

  • The Clicker tab key presser and the press step are free on every plan.
  • Timed Actions, and the clicker random extra delay, are part of Basic and Pro.
  • To run something at a set time of day instead, see how to schedule mouse clicks.
